Primary data and the methods of collecting it.
Primary data is one Which is collected by the enumerator from respondent for the first time. It consumes more time, money and labour. It is more reliable.
Methods of collecting primary data:-
- Direct personal observation or interview.
- Indirect oral investigation.
- Mailed questionnaire.
- Information through agencies or correspondence.
- Investigation through trained enumerator.
Direct personal observation or interview.
- It is one of the method of collecting primary data. In this method the enumerator collects the information from the respondent directly for the first time. It is more reliable.
- This method consumes more money, labour and time, if the number of respondent is very high.
- The data obtained are suitable to our requirement because it is collected by the enumerator himself.
Indirect oral investigation or interview.
- It is another method of collecting primary data. When the respondent is not Interested to give data directly. This method is used. The enumerator ask third party‚s help to get information from respondent.
- Sometimes this method is not reliable because of biased information.
- It takes less money labour and time.

- In this method training to the enumerator to collect the information from respondent is essential.
- It needs more money, labour and time to collect data.
